Arrow Point, Horwich

Location: Horwich, Lancashire
Client: Arrow Capital Partners
Value: £1,750,000
Timescale: November 2024 to June 2025
Scope: The asbestos removal, soft-strip, demolition and site clearance of a former warehouses and supermarket.

Project Background

The project consisted of the demolition of a former 33,500m2 warehouse and a 6,000m2 Tesco store with an additional 20,000m2 of hardstanding to remove.

Demolition Methodology

After the asbestos containing materials had been removed from the old Tesco store, the structure was demolished bay by bay using one of our demolition excavators fitted with a steel shear with a smaller excavator working alongside processing the resultant material.  Following the demolition of the structure, a second team of excavators worked on grubbing up and processing the slab and foundations, crushing the resultant material to 6F2 standard product and leaving on site in various stockpiles for the follow-on contractor to use in the redevelopment of the site.

Simultaneously, the larger warehouse structure was demolished in a similar manner using our high reach excavator with a third excavator team working on the remaining hardstanding across the site.

Live Services

In both buildings there was a live sub-station which needed to be disconnected with and a HV feed supplying both, as well as another sub-station for the adjacent industrial estate.  This supply had to remain live throughout the project so the area was demarked with no below-ground works taking place in the vicinity of the HV cable run.

Material Testing

An extensive programme of material testing was carried out to test for any contaminants as well as grading of the resultant material.
